Conway attorney Johnny Gardner was recognized by Coastal Carolina University during CCU’s homecoming football game in October 2024 as CCU’s Outstanding Alumnus of the Year:
The Coastal Carolina University Office for Advancement and Alumni Engagement has announced its Outstanding Alumnus of the Year recipients. Johnny Gardner has been named the Outstanding Alumnus of the Year, while Meagan Nowacoski Michal is the Outstanding Young Alumnus of the Year. Gardner and Michal were recognized during CCU’s homecoming football game on Oct. 19.
Gardner, an Horry County native, earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from CCU in 1985. He serves as the chairman of Horry County Council, having been elected for two terms. Gardner has also been a self-employed attorney for more than 30 years. Before attending law school, he served as a U.S. Army captain in the 82nd Airborne. He was the first Army ROTC graduate at CCU…

Candidates nominated for the alumni awards are chosen by a steering committee of the University’s college deans. Criteria for the annual awards include loyalty to CCU, record of service and accomplishments, and demonstration of positive attributes.
